Sdfsdf, I've been asked a lot during these Exceptional Times of 2020 how I'm staying sane, remaining grounded, and continuing to gracefully lead my Community of Highly Sensitive Entrepreneurs and Leaders from around the world to continue to excel for themselves while overall just keeping my sh*zzzz together as I face some major personal life changes as result of these times as well.
Soooo … I thought it would be fun to share on the first Friday of each month what I'm reading, watching, listening to (and tools I'm using, too) to keep myself moving forward through these times. Here's where I'm at this month …
1. The Pandemic in Six-Word Memoirs (NY Times) - I found these witty, poignant, heart-breaking, relatable, and creative submissions so soothing. It's amazing what can be said in just 6 words by "everyday folks". I don't feel so alone with the craziness of these Exceptional Times when I read these submissions and, as I like to remind my team, more words does not mean more value.
2. Ruth Bader Ginsburg's 2012 Glamour Woman of the Year Speech (Glamour) - The collective grief of 2020 continues to build with the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I think for many there isn't even a full understanding of this grief. This is because many are unaware of the depths of this one woman's impact on what so many of us are now able to do without knowing that we owe her tribute for it. Reading her own words from her 2012 Glamour Woman of the Year Speech merely begins to scratch the surface of why we all owe her so much.
3. Buying Myself Back by Emily Ratajkowski (The Cut) - Speaking of owing RBG, this powerful essay wouldn't have even been able to be written without the likes of RBG, but thank goodness it was written. Talk about a woman taking a public stand for her power. It's an eloquently communicated message that is way overdue.
1. Trapped (Amazon Prime) - Both my Sweetheart Husband and I have found this Icelandic series so super captivating! The acting is superb, and the writing is gripping. Although, a highly sensitive heads up for you that some scenes are definitely hide-your-eyes-in-your-elbow-gruesome, but because the scenery is so beautiful and the language fascinating, it makes it all worth it. Plus, it's a good reminder that no country is perfect and everywhere you go humans are being human - gorgeous glaciers or not.
1. The Michelle Obama Podcast (Spotify) - I've been listening to this podcast since August and I just keep loving it, but the first episode, a conversation between Michelle and President Obama, is the best. Such a great demonstration of a real, high-level marriage. Listening, I secretly wonder if Michelle Obama is highly sensitive with a high dose of high sensation seeker. Take a listen and I think you'll hear what I'm hearing …
1. The Jewels Inside card deck by Kavita Melwani and Neena Buxani - My Team Member, Kavita, casually dropped during our week of Virtual Team Planning that she and her sister created a card deck and the rest of the team (myself included) were like, "WHAT?! We want one!" and then she graciously sent a deck to each of us.
I've been loving these cards and using them every day. Each card holds a beautiful image of a healing gem and the backside shares the meaning of the gem as well as affirmations and exercises to work with. I've loved using them so much that I've started sharing them during VIP Day Sessions with other Highly Sensitive Leaders as well who also have found them to be powerful - and now you can, too.
*********
Hope you find something useful (or just plain fun) in these recommendations to support yourself with keeping it all moving forward during these Exceptional Times as a Highly Sensitive Leader.
I'd love to hear what you're reading, watching and listening to as well; I'm always open to being introduced to something new and will happily give you credit if it's something I end up latching onto. Just "hit reply" and let me know. :)
We will continue to transcend these times - together.
In Faith,
XO. Heather
