Sdfsdf, April is my birthday month and though I definitely still feel sadness about not being able to take my originally planned trip to Paris to celebrate and mark this year of turning 50, I do also feel a sense of hope. I love my birthday month because it typically means Spring here in NYC, but also reminds me how fortunate I am to still be breathing, learning and growing and especially in the midst of a global pandemic that has taken so much from so many of us.
Here's where I'm at this month …
1. I Am Invincible, by Norma Kamali - A few months ago, my friend, Shira, and I were talking about turning 50 this year and that we needed a bible about how to do this next decade differently than all of the stereotypes about what this age is supposed to mean and then – voila! – we both read an article about Norma Kamali's new book, and I'll say it does not disappoint. Such a breath of fresh air, a mix of her personal stories, recommendations and overall permission to do things differently.
One of my many favorite quotes: "I am presenting a narrative that does not fit the one most of us have been led to believe is the predestined plan for women."
And it's for women of ALL ages. There are literally separate sections from teens to centenarians. So, if life vitality is important to you, you'll love this book. If style is important to you, you'll love this book. If you want to change your attitude about aging, you'll love this book!
Fun side note: my last traditional teaching job (2001-2004) was in a public school that had an amazing "business partner" program. The business partner for the program I was a part of on the 9th floor of this 13-story inner city public school was Bette Midler; the business partner for the program on the 7th floor was Norma Kamali! So, I would often see her walking the halls. And she mentions her work with the school on page 189. :)
1. How I Met Your Mother (Hulu) - Ok, I resisted this show for YEARS. I tried to watch it because I knew so many people loved it, but just could not get into it. I figured I was one step removed from this generation of an "NYC gang" sitcom. But my friend, Shira (yes, same friend : )) insisted so I finally was able to give it a go by starting in the middle of season 4 with an episode that is quintessential NYC and then I was hooked! It's been a light way to be entertained (which is what I still need right now) while also paying homage and honor to the city I love so much.
1. Beryl Bender Birch (Facebook Lives) - My longtime friend, Rosemarie, started sending me links to the "sangha" gatherings being led by yogi master, Beryl Bender, on Facebook each morning. I'm just not enough of an early bird to attend live (which is why I am so grateful for a friend who is willing to send me the recordings), but find such value in the teachings and mediations that Beryl leads each weekday morning.
1. Weekly Activations - I continue to be amazed at the energy and power that is generated each Monday morning (Eastern) while I'm leading a 30-minute activation connecting the 50 Miracle Principles from A Course In Miracles with the elements of Highly Sensitive Leadership. It's an incredible community of Highly Sensitive Entrepreneurs and Leaders that gathers each week. If you are feeling any sense of "pandemic fatigue", general malaise, or just recognize the need for a weekly boost, I highly recommend you join us. It's free.

Hope you find something useful (or just plain fun) in these recommendations to support yourself with keeping it all moving forward during these Exceptional Times as a Highly Sensitive Entrepreneur and Leader.
I'd love to hear what you're reading, watching and listening to as well; I'm always open to being introduced to something new and will happily give you credit if it's something I end up latching onto. Just hit "reply" and let me know. :)
We will continue to transcend these times - together.
In Faith,
XO. Heather
