With the way our world is going the onslaught isn't going to stop. So, who owns our communication choices - reacting only to the behavior of others (Putin, GOP Senators, Celebrities. I bet they're all sleeping just fine at night) or instead being willing to pause, access our highly sensitive strengths such as deep thinking and perhaps choose to respond differently?
Or what about not respond at all (not out of fear, overwhelm, avoidance or guilt that you don't know what to say - but choice to take more personal action)?
Is it leadership to react on social media to every media event happening? Does it make you less of a leader if you don't?
I don't pretend to have any answers but I do put out the invitation, for those of us who are meant to use our sensitivities to lead, to be deeply contemplating: how do we want to choose to use social media? Are we going to default to use it for formulaic marketing? Or are we going to use it to lead?
I recently asked on my personal Facebook page how others were using social for positivity. I received some great responses that included suggestions such as sharing lighthearted sayings, positive quotes, pictures of puppies. I appreciate all of these options, but what struck me is no one offered up the option of using it to make a deeper connection. Not one person considered using social to reach out to a "friend" to have a more intimate conversation.
As we face things like the potential of a World War III, continued systemic racism and the ongoing insanity of celebrity culture (did the pandemic teach us nothing?) - don't we have a higher chance of healing through more personal connections?
I'm wagering, yes.
And this is exactly what we as highly sensitives are equipped to do - think deeply, feel deeply and listen deeply.
Let's get to it.
XO. Heather
