5 steps to executive functioning for HSPs: what no one tells you

Hello Sdfsdf,

Do you ever feel like you know what you need to do in your business, but actually doing it feels overwhelming? What if you could work with your brain instead of against it?

Let's talk about Executive Functioning for a moment. Executive functioning refers to the mental skills that help you set and achieve goals, solve problems, manage emotions, control impulses, and make decisions. These essential skills support success in work, school, and everyday life.

As an HSP, executive functioning can sometimes feel overwhelming. But I'm here with good news: it doesn't have to. Read on to learn how …

Highly Sensitive Women in History Highlight: Princess Diana

Princess Diana's deep empathy and intuition made her a powerful, compassionate leader, allowing her to connect with people in ways few public figures could. Like many HSPs, she faced executive functioning challenges such as overwhelm and emotional regulation in high-pressure environments. Yet, by embracing her strengths – emotional intelligence, intuition, and deep connection – she redefined leadership, proving that sensitivity, when supported, is a force for lasting impact.

What's Happening with Heather

Sdfsdf, did you catch yesterday's FREE INTRO CLASS: Enhancing HSP Business Leadership Through Neurodiversity and Executive Functioning?

It was such a joy to connect with this Intro Class cohort and dive deep into this most important topic. During the mentoring portion of the class, I answered a lot of significant questions and provided clear mentor support on next steps to take for participants to be able to experience more impact and income with less effort as HSPs in business and leadership.

I also shared a lot of great content (if I do say so myself :)) during the training portion of the class. The biggest takeaway from participants I heard was, "I see now that I don't need fixing – just better tools." Absolutely true!

You can get started with five clear steps to understand the connection between being HSP and neurodivergent and how to use this to maximize executive functioning, which ties into this week's HSP Business Tip!

Today's HSP Business Tip: Maximize your executive functioning through understanding and acceptance

The following are five clear points to understand the connection between being HSP and neurodivergent:

  1. Human brains are all wired differently. We all perceive, relate to, and understand the world differently.
  2. How we interpret our world is based on both our neurological wiring and our experiences (nature/nurture).
  3. Due to 1 and 2, what the majority might consider to be the 'norm' might not be so normal. What the majority might consider to be pathological may, in fact, just be a variation in genetics, making an individual unique.
  4. HSPs are born with sensory processing sensitivity. Highly sensitive people exhibit increased blood flow to the regions of the brain that process our emotions, awareness, and empathy. Therefore, we are born with different wiring than most.
  5. Highly sensitive people perceive the world differently than most and are among the "neurologically diverse" in our population.

Next, here are five simple things you can do to put these into practice:

Regulate your emotions by identifying overstimulation triggers.

✅ Develop planning strategies that honor your need for reflection and intuition.

✅ Use community support to reinforce accountability and consistency.

✅ Adjust your business approach to work with your natural energy cycles.

✅ Stop "fixing" yourself with courses and certifications that aren't designed for your HSP processing style.

"I have found since using the tools that Heather teaches, especially Energy Management and my declaration statement for the new year, I've been more focused and productive. Over the last few months, I've completed all of the modules for my online course, reached out to a new potential audience in a different city, and immediately sold one course. I've also delivered a presentation to a group of lawyers AND enrolled 5 people in my Spiritual Retreat in India next month. I'm taking business actions with more clarity, and feeling as if I have more time and space by prioritizing my Time OFF FIRST! and scheduling TIME IN and ON my business. All this in just over my first six months in the Highly Sensitive Leadership Training Program."

Chamundai's experience highlights a key shift for neurodivergent entrepreneurs: when executive functioning challenges like focus, time management, and decision-making are supported with the right tools, productivity and ease naturally follow. Many traditional business strategies don't align with highly sensitive and neurodivergent minds, leading to overwhelm and avoidance. But by prioritizing energy management, structured flexibility, and aligned goal-setting—rather than forcing neurotypical methods – clarity, momentum, and success become not just possible, but sustainable.
