Break Free from Either/Or Thinking: Embrace a Both/And Mindset! 🤗

image

Hello Sdfsdf,

As a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), do you often find yourself caught in the trap of perfectionism, where everything is viewed in black-and-white terms? This mindset can hinder your personal and professional growth by creating unnecessary stress and limiting your potential.

I want to share with you how to break free from the restrictive either/or thinking and adopt a both/and mindset. By making this shift, you can embrace the grey areas of business, reduce anxiety, and create a more balanced and fulfilling self-employed experience.

What's Happening with Heather

I am just wrapping up an incredible week of leading a Quantum Leap Retreat for a few select members of the Business Miracles community. Talk about embracing a Both/And mindset! The HSP business owners and leaders completely shed limitations of what they previously believed they could or couldn't do and are now prepared to create at entirely new levels and heights. They are truly ready to go back to their day-to-day of family, business, life, and LEAD.

Honestly, I'm still processing the magnitude of what transpired and will be sharing more photos with you from this incredible experience soon. In the meantime, in the name of Both/And I long ago shattered the concept of what attending in-person training or "conference attending" was meant to look like or be.

Including the days needing to be long and grinding for myself, my team, and my HSP attendees. Starting with my go-to team member, Suzie, and I begin every day with a minimum of a 45-minute walk through the incredible forest that surrounds where I've been holding the majority of our sacred, transformational Business Miracles retreats since 2012.

Today's HSP Business Tip: Breaking Free from Either/Or Thinking

As a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), you might find yourself struggling with perfectionism. This trait, deeply rooted in either/or thinking, can create a rigid mindset where situations are seen only in extremes—either perfect or a failure.

Understanding Perfectionism and Either/Or Thinking

Perfectionism is among the top 12 Highly Sensitive Shadows™ I've identified through my practicum research since 2010. It influences how you process the world and is often linked to anxiety and other mental health issues such as obsessive-compulsive disorder.

This type of thinking limits your potential by creating a belief that things must be either perfect or completely flawed, with no middle ground. In business, this can mean intending to do everything on your list but not getting it done and feeling defeated, worthless, and stuck in survival mode when you could thrive.

It's crucial to shift from either/or thinking to a both/and mindset to support yourself. This means recognizing that multiple perspectives and outcomes can coexist. For example, a project can be both a success and have areas for improvement. By adopting this mindset, you can reduce anxiety and embrace the imperfections that are a natural part of growth and success.

Embracing a Both/And Mindset

  1. Acknowledge Your Perfectionism: Understand that striving for perfection is a natural part of being highly sensitive, but it doesn't have to control you.
  2. Shift Your Perspective: Start seeing situations in a broader context. Instead of viewing things as black or white, allow for multiple outcomes to coexist.
  3. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection: Focus on your progress rather than what you perceive as shortcomings. Each step forward is a success.

By shifting to a both/and mindset, you can transform how you approach challenges, fostering a more balanced and fulfilling path to success. Action Item: Think of one thing in business that you have meant to do but put off because it has to be perfect. Take messy action today.

Business Miracles Members Making An Impact:

How Mayumi Found Her New Story

image

I remember when Mayumi first came to the Business Miracles Quantum Leap Retreat. She shared with me how she felt trapped in an old story—a cycle of losing clients, feeling deep shame, and finding herself stuck, repeating the same patterns over and over. It was as though she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders, unsure of how to break free.

During our time together at the retreat, I saw a remarkable transformation in Mayumi. She began to reconnect with her essential HSP Business SELF—the core of who she truly is. With each exercise, each moment of reflection, she started to let go of the old story and allowed a new one to emerge.

Instead of reacting to problems impulsively, she learned to pause, reflect, and respond with clarity and confidence. It was like watching someone rediscover their own power.

Mayumi told me something that still resonates with me: "This was the best in-person training ever. My life has been changed after attending." She described how this new story she's writing for herself now brings her peace, hope, and happiness—not just in her business but in her life as a whole.

To hear her speak with such confidence and joy is a reminder of why I do this work. Mayumi's journey from feeling stuck to embracing her true potential is a testament to the power of connecting with your essential SELF and making decisions from a place of inner strength.

And as a CPA in Miami, FL, Mayumi's transformation isn't just about personal growth—it's about changing the way she approaches her business, too. Her story is a beautiful example of what can happen when we allow ourselves to step out of the shadows of our old narratives and into the light of who we are truly meant to be.

Remember to practice self-compassion and celebrate progress rather than striving for unattainable perfection. Each step you take is a victory in itself.
